Reaction: Elisabeth Sladen - John Barrowman

"Elisabeth Sladen Matriarch of Dr Who - I loved my time on the Tardis with her. I am proud to have worked with such an icon of the sci fi world. Your Dr Who family are very sad and will miss you and your beautiful smile. RTD (Russell T. Davies) called me this morning when I woke up. She lived in my flat in Cardiff when she was filming SJA. She was a delight. Can't tell you how sad I am. I wanted to let you know I got the news as a lot of you were concerned. I'm off to chill, I hope you understand. Will tweet this weekend in PS. jb."

Torchwood: Week Six Filming
MondayMonday saw the Torchwood team at another airport, this time the Ontario International Airport in Los Angeles (filming took place at Cardiff International Airport three weeks previously). Mekhi Phifer and Dichen Lachman were reported to be on location. Meanwhile, Jane Espenson clarified some differences between the UK and US film schedules.
07:25 AS Had to be at work at 4:12am in Ontario. I have my Valentine,
Dichen Lachman, with me tho so that makes things a little better.
11:52 BBC Big day at the Airport location today. We're Also beginning prep for
a 2nd Unit tomorrow = DOUBLE the #Torchwood fun. Happy Valentine's day
13:24 JE I think they shoot on Saturdays in the UK,
but have shorter working days. We def. have Sat/Sun off. Yay weekends!
19:00 ST Past the 2000 mark for followers. Welcome all - hope to keep u entertained
with stories of costume life on the set of torchwood :-) Peace
06:12 MP Could use a few more hours of sleep.
On the phone for 2hrs with moms last night...
If I just had half her strength!
Tuesday
Eve Myles returned to production in the US, which sounded to be another 'bloody' affair according to Mekhi Phifer. Scenes today were back on the Warner Bros lot. As previously reported, whilst exteriors may have been filmed in Wales, the respective interiors have been shot back in the States, something Jane Espenson reports as meeting the Welsh cast's approval!
10:55 ST Beautiful Eve back with us today. Even slimmer after all the action
and -10 weather. Glad to have her back on set.
13:20 BBC Going to have an exciting reunion with wonderfully effervescent Eve Myles
this afternoon. Lets see what she's up to...
15:54 MP Shooting Torchwood and I'm all bloodied up right now!
Rain machines, green screen, u name it, we got it!! Dope ass show!
16:25 JE The Welsh people haven't objected to the interiors,
so I think they must be good!
16:38 JE The current thiller / arc / connected-story feel of TW is working
really well and is best done in shorter runs.
18:24 BBC "I'm terrified of Twitter because computers hate me, but
(Cowgirl Voice) Howdy Partners I'm having a blast on set today" - Eve Myles

After a few days absence, a welcome return to "TW-Spy!" today as we get to see the inside of the costume truck (Captain Jack, Simpsons-style!), Russell T Davies with a (very!) large cheese, and a set visit by actress/producer Kim Evey.
Kai Owen also revealed that he'll be heading back to L.A. next week, which indicates that the return to the UK for filming wasn't to happen after all.
07:43 ST One of the walls in the costume truck :-)
that's our set crew!
11:50 KO Nate: Hey mate! What's happening?
Just having a glass of red and thinking of you!!
Nice to be home? I'm back with you next Wednesday.
Looking forward to have a burger with you!! Kai x
12:46 DL Mekhi Phifer has just been showing me his website
called 'thirdreel' on the torchwood set.
Check it out.
14:47 BBC Russell stands proud with the mystery cheese sent
to us from the UK. Who's the culprit???
15:42 KE Got to visit this set today thanks to Shawna
15:51 Sarann: Are you doing exciting costume
related things on the Torchwood set today?
ST Always :-)
20:25 DE Just back from the Torchwood set, where I forced
John Barrowman and Eve Myles to look at pictures
of my dogs.
Thursday
Alana Stone reveals plane activity, a vague comment which mean a interior set reproduction of an interior or even a real plane at the airport! No other clues forthcoming, unfortunately!
09:31 ST Eve Myles told Kim Evey that she is the voice of one of the
characters on the DragonAge II game. Small world
11:01 ST Forgot to wear my hearing aid today Driving my crew crazy. Huh?
11:36 AS I'm on a plane!
16:49 NG Kai: can't wait to see ya. Give the baba a kiss fer me.
00:16 DL LOVE Torchwood peeps. Having so much fun.
Friday
BBC Torchwood, via ImgMu
Another day on set, and more mysterious items that may or may not be what they seem! With conventions and holidays on the way nobody wanted another late night Friday, though Bill Pullman continued to keep everybody entertained as production completed for another week.
13:42 BBC It seems the line between salad dressing and
chocolate custard is little hazy today.
You only live once!
22:47 ST The rain makes me tired well that, prepping 3 episodes
while shooting two, cleaning house, feeding the kids..
Time for a meeting & chocolate
17:30 AS Is it really Friday?
18:44 ST Alana: should not be a fraterday I hope :-)
22:19 BBC We're coming to set, Shawna, Alana,
its dark and lonely over here.
22:25 AS BBC_Torchwood: yay!!! Can't wait for your visit!
Bill is being awesome as usual.
Speaking of Bill Pullman, his fan site published a photo of him with John Barrowman in their Jack/Oswald mode!
Saturday
Friday brought an end to filming for the week, and an extended weekend was due with a holiday on Monday for Presidents Day, not to mention Jane Espenson and Doris Egan attending the GallifreyOne convention over the weekend too!
However, it wasn't a complete halt to proceedings:
01:20 BBC We're location scouting in a couple of hours!
That's right we work Saturday's in the US too!
(But let's be honest not a full days work)
Director of Photography Nate Goodman also commented on Torchwood so far ...
19:26 NG One week back from Wales. Saw some of Ep 1 cut together. Epic.
Not your mother's Torchwood...

Seven Years of Torchwood?
John Barrowman has told The Scottish Sun that the BBC and the Starz Network are planning to make seven years of Torchwood.I have turned down a load of other shows to make Torchwood. We'll be filming it in LA as it's now a collaboration between the BBC and the Starz Network in America. They're planning to make it for the next seven years. So I'll be spending six months a year in Hollywood and six back in the UK.

Mekhi Phifer joins Torchwood
Deadline is reporting that American actor Mekhi Phifer is to join the cast of Torchwood: The New World playing Rex Matheson, one of the three leads, alongside John Barrowman and Eve Myles.Mekhi Phifer is best known for his role as Dr. Gregory Pratt on NBC's long-running medical drama ER.
Born in New York, his acting career began when he was selected for the leading role in Spike Lee's Clockers a role for which he won critical acclaim for his performance as Strike, a young New Jersey drug dealer involved in a murder cover-up. He later appeared in the comedy spoof High School High, in the Columbia/Tristar thriller I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and in Soul Food. In 2002, Phifer starred as Future, opposite Eminem, in Curtis Hanson's film, 8 Mile. Phifer's other television credits include leading roles in MTV's film Carmen: A Hip Hopera and in A Lesson Before Dying a role which eearned him an NAACP Image Award Nomination. He was a regular on the Fox crime show Lie to Me.
REX MATHESON
He’s 28, the golden boy.
Has been, all his life. Harvard education, fast-tracker in the C.I.A., destined for success. Though he’s never taken it easy – Rex hustles, seduces and campaigns to get where he is today. He can talk his way into anything, then charm his way out, fast. He’s made a lot of enemies, but his friends and lovers would defend him to death. His choice of career is significant. Someone like Rex could make a fortune in Wall Street, or Hollywood. But choosing the C.I.A. says a lot about him: that for all his swagger, he does believe in justice. And will fight for it.
Slowly but surely, we see him make friends. He’s thrown together a bunch of people known as Torchwood, the only people who might have the answer to a global mystery. To Rex, at first, they’re a bunch of freaks. Welsh women and World War 2 Captains, what’s that about?! But as they race from one crisis to another, dodging assassins, blackmail, corruption and conspiracy, from Washington to Wales and the slums of Shanghai, Rex forges friendships in the heat of fire. He learns to trust his new colleagues. And they realize that this dangerous, dazzling, reckless man is the best friend they could ever have, in a world going to hell.
They frighten us, men like Rex. We wish we were him; we never will be.

'Buffy' producer joins new 'Torchwood'

Former Buffy and Angel producer Kelly Manners has joined the production team for Torchwood: The New World.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Manners will begin work on the show next month, when production is expected to commence.
Life On Mars and Outcasts director Bharat Nalluri will join Manners on the fourth series of the Doctor Who spinoff, as will The Walking Dead production designer Gregory Melton and Dollhouse costume designer Shawn Trpcic.
The report also suggests that the ten-episode run could premiere in July in the US, though an official airdate is yet to be confirmed.

Moffat Wants Captain Jack Back!?
Russell T. Davies has revealed that new Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat wants to feature Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) in the show at some point in the future. Davies made the comments in an interview with IGN where he also discussed how he and Moffat exchange storyline details on future plots on Doctor Who and its spin-off shows The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood so nothing clashes between the three shows.Speaking to IGN, Russell T. Davies had the following to say:
"Well, Steven said he'd love to see Jack in Doctor Who. So if Steven says that, Steven will make it happen, I would think. That's not inside information, but I bet one day it will happen. I'd love to see it. It would be marvellous."
Torchwood: What to Expect From The New World
IGN: We've heard this new CIA character, Rex, is somewhat the entry point of The New World. Will we get to Jack and Gwen pretty quickly?Davies: Too soon to say, but I'm very aware of that. I will enjoy playing with that and I can see already that a slight myth is going to build up of sorts, saying that Rex is our only entry point. When we first see Gwen, you will see what it essentially was in the series [before]. There are no super powers, there's no credits, no money, no special privileges. You'll see an ordinary woman whose life is about to take an extraordinary turn. So there will be an awful lot of new viewers where if you've never seen Gwen Cooper in your life, you will see a woman with a husband, a baby, thrown into a threat and you'll latch onto her immediately. Even the way that Captain Jack is introduced is written so that you'll latch onto that as well.
IGN: With Jack, I would guess it's one of those delicate balancing acts, because as you're well aware, there is a portion of the fandom still mourning Inato, some of whom will want Jack to still be mourning him. But of course, you want to move forward and not have the character be stuck in sadness.
Davies: Of course, we're aware of that. It's a love of a great actor and a great performance. It's not just the love of Ianto, I think it's probably the love of Gareth David-Lloyd, which is a wonderful thing to see. Even Gareth now has done interviews now, saying, "It's time to move on." He's very kind and respectful. Of course, it's not a blank slate for Jack. Of course that past haunts him. Not just Ianto, but the terrible events that he took after Ianto's death with his own grandson will haunt him. Nonetheless the story is at least two years later. And with any fictional character, if they walked into scene one dragging their baggage behind him… If you sit down and someone starts telling you their whole family history, you don't want to spend any time with them. So that's true of Jack and everyone in life. So you've got to be aware of that. We'll handle it delicately and suitably and with a great deal of respect, but nonetheless, the imperative is to move on.
IGN: What is the dynamic with Rex and the other new character, Ester? What kind of sensibilities do they bring to Torchwood?
Davies: I don't want to give away too much. Rex certainly brings dynamism and energy and hostility towards Torchwood. He wants to know who the hell they are and why the hell they're so important and they can get out of his way… at first. There's a great, fun, sparky, sexy sort of antagonism to the whole thing. Ester is much calmer, but through the course of the story, she suffers some great, powerful, emotional stories as it goes on. In some ways, she's a bit of an innocent abroad and soon learns not to be. And that plays off Gwen's experience with these things. The fact that Gwen still is the most ordinary woman in the world, and Jack's huge perspective of things, having lived for thousands of years… Just telling Rex that he can't die is a hilarious scene. There's a lot of fresh material there that we'll mine, but again the new story will always move us forward.
IGN: Is there room going forward for Jack to have a new love interest? Or will that wait awhile?
Davies: He's not one to wait, is he? And again, that's touching on an area where you don't want to cheapen it and you want to respect it, but at the same time, no one wants to deny Jack his life. As with your friends in real life; If you are unlucky enough or sad enough to know people in these circumstances, you do not want the remaining partner's life to end. So no matter how much he loved Ianto, that love has to become a really positive and enabling thing that will allow Jack to move forward.
IGN: You have a wonderful writing staff for The New World…
Gardner: We were so lucky! Oh my god, they were brilliant together.

Davies confirms new 'Torchwood' details

Torchwood creator Russell T Davies has revealed more details about the upcoming fourth series, subtitled The New World.
The writer told Collider that previous mini-series Children of Earth was being used as "the template of the new Torchwood."
"Children of Earth left things almost format-less," he said. "They had no base, no authority and no mission... except to survive. They're very much underground [now] and trying to survive. They've taken extreme actions. They have friends, they have enemies and they have betrayals."
He continued: "We've got one script and very concrete storylines, so we know there are new regulars, new occasional guest stars and relatives of those characters."
Davies also confirmed that The New World would take place two years after the events of the previous series.
"Torchwood will have been off-air for two years, so I think it will feel like two years have passed," he explained. "The script isn't that specific about it, but I think that two-year gap feels right."
He added that plans to shoot on location in Los Angeles were "yet to be confirmed".
"Any place can double up as a number of places," he suggested. "There will be scenes set in Washington, certainly, but we won't go to Washington to shoot."
