Dr who series 6 & 7 casting news, unmasking a sontaran, filming in cornwall and more!!

After a week where Doctor Who filming has been conspicuous by its absence a twitterer reported:

@swanseagundog: Great day today. They’ve been filming for Dr Who at work so lots of cybermen around and also got to meet Karen Gillan who plays the Dr’s assistant Amy Pond. What a lovely person, signed autographs and chatted. Didn’t get to meet Arthur Darvill who plays here on screen partner Rory Williams as he was busy with the cybermen.

According to a comment on the Doctor Who Filming Facebook page todays filming seems to have taken place at the former L’Oreal plant in Talbot Green. This at least confirms that the Cybermen will be returning in Episode Seven. There is however no news on whether they themselves have been upgraded.

Another of the twitterati added:

@poppythecat: Aww! My friend says her twins did their filming for Doctor Who today and were held by Matt. Bless. She said they’ll feature strongly

A Doctor Who fan revealed on twitter that the series would be leaving Wales behind next week and filming in Charlestown, St. Austell.

According to the Cornwall Guide website: Charlestown was built between 1791 and 1801 and is an unspoilt example of a late Georgian working port. Which would definitely suggest a period setting for the story.

It appears that the Who Crew will be shooting in Charlestown for three or four days in early February and is most likely to be for Episode Three which is written by Sherlock scribe Steve Thompson.

The photograph of a Sontaran at some location filming earlier this month raised the quesion of whether the potato-headed warmongers are returning in episodes 5 and 6 (as might befit a storyline rumoured to involve cloning) or episode 7 (as we thought at the time).

The mystery is now solved thanks to the spotlight cv of Dan Starkey who will be returning to the Sontaran suit as Strax in an episode directed by Peter Hoar.

Dan previously appeared as Commander Skorr in The Sontatan Strategem/The Poison Sky and as Jask, the would be assasin of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in The End of Time, Part Two. He will also be appearing in the fifth series of The Sarah Jane Adventures as Plark.
